Touring an Assisted Living Community? Don’t Forget These Questions

assisted living Plymouth

A tour is the best way to evaluate if an assisted living community is the right fit for your loved one. Asking the right questions ensures you gather valuable insight. Keep these things in mind on your tour:

1. Staffing Levels and Qualifications

Inquire about staff-to-resident ratios and caregiver credentials. Ask about staff turnover rates, as consistency plays a crucial role in quality care.

2. Social and Recreational Activities

Does the community provide a variety of activities that suit different interests? Are there opportunities for your loved one to engage socially and pursue hobbies?

3. Speaking with Current Residents and Families

Gaining firsthand perspectives from current residents or their families can provide clarity on the community’s quality and culture.

4. Philosophy of Care

Ensure the community’s approach aligns with your loved one’s values and expectations. Understanding their mission and principles can provide peace of mind.

Finding the right assisted living community takes careful consideration and research. Schedule a tour and ask these questions to ensure a fulfilling and comfortable lifestyle for your loved one.

Enrich Your Life with Assisted Living

Assisted Living Plymouth

Hear from some of our residents’ families here:

“I just placed a loved one at the Plymouth Inn. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the care. Everyone there makes you feel like family! The activities are engaging, the food is delicious, and the care is outstanding. Best decision!”

Pam, Google Review

“My sister Karen was a resident at Plymouth Terrace from 2018 to 2021. Our family could not of found a better place for our sister. She had suffered a stroke in 2005 at age 55. Up until 2018, she was able to live in an independent living apartment. Her needs became too great that she had to move to assisted living. We have been nothing but pleased with the director, the nurses, the aides and basically all their employees. She was monitored on a regular basis to see if she needed anything. Her apartment was kept clean, her laundry was always done and she was given showers on a regular basis. Everytime I called the facility, I was treated with respect and had my questions or concerns dealt with in a timely manner. The staff went over and beyond to keep Karen happy and comfortable.”

Beverly, Google Review

8 Signs of Mental Health Concerns in Seniors

assisted living Plymouth

There are many risk factors for mental illness that can affect seniors disproportionately. One of those is grief, an unfortunately common experience for many folks as they age. Loss of a spouse or loved one can be a precursor to an episode of depression. Another is chronic illness, pain, or the onset of a physical disability. Other risk factors are medication interactions, poor diet or nutrition and substance abuse.

Enlisting the help of trained experts will help decipher the meaning of the changes you have observed. The following checklist can also help you determine if you’re dealing with a potentially serious behavioral change.

Signs of mental health concerns in seniors:

1.     Difficulty maintaining concentration – sudden confusion or disorientation

2.     Rapid appetite or weight changes

3.     Home or personal appearance in disrepair

4.     Memory issues, especially short-term memory loss or problems with recent memories

5.     Ongoing depressed moods lasting two weeks or longer

6.     Expressing feelings of hopelessness, undue guilt, or suicidal thoughts

7.     Unexplainable physical pain or fatigue

8.     Isolation from social groups or loss of interest in friends and hobbies
